When most Australians think of Moroccan rugs they think of the bright Boujaads, creamy Beni Ourains, and fun Boucherouites from Pinterest.
But my favourites and some of the most special pieces in the recent collection are the less widely available and celebrated vintage treasures originating from the Taznakht, Haouz of Marrakech and Ait Yakkob regions. All dating back 50 - 70 years, these pieces are truely unique and rare finds.
All sourced during my time in Marrakech - Digging to the bottom of and searching through piles of vintage treasures in riads and the back of carpet shops, that hadn't been looked through in years, or perhaps even decades.
Traditionally used for their practical nature in family homes - I love them for their traditional flatter weave, unique pattern work, incredible tones aged in all the right places, and the story that they conjure up.
All have been skilfully and carefully hand washed and repaired in traditional methods to restore them to their former glory. Knowing some of these pieces date back to 1966 just confirms that you really can't beat the vintage pieces. They've lasted all this time and have many more years left in them yet.
These have been some of the most popular pieces in the showroom this last month and I've loved seeing them off to their new homes. A few of these special pieces are still remaining. Additional photos available of all, just hit reply with any questions.
