On this rug hunting trip to Marrakech I had a plan. Only buy the unicorn rugs... the ones I completely fell in love with. I had specific requests to buy for people, a quantity for my own collection in mind and a budget to stick to... and then I completely blew it.
On a mission to find the perfect Beni Ourain rugs for a couple of my sourcing clients - I'd scoured through most of the suppliers in Marrakech not finding what I was looking for. With their rise in popularity (and Pinterest) over the last decade the authentic older vintage Beni Ourains are becoming harder to come by, and the newer make pieces just don't have the same history and character.
Then I had the opportunity to look through a warehouse of a Moroccan Beni Ourain collector who had been stashing away 100s of these tribal treasures from this region for years. We'd struck gold - All incredible vintage 40 - 70 year old treasures that have been collected over the decades - with beautiful thick wool quality, and super unique designs that just can't be found in the newer make Benis. It was love at first site... and that's when I blew my budget.
This Beni Ourain collection was not in the plan...! But they were too special not to add to the collection, and I'm so excited to be able to make them available to you.
These incredible treasures DO NOT BECOME AVAILABLE very often... so if you fall in love with one please snap it up now. Because once they're gone they're gone.. and who knows when I'll strike gold again next...

Traditionally used in Berber homes to keep the family warm in the depths of Winter - these Berber beauties originate from the Beni Ourain region of the Atlas Mountains. The hand spun wool is thick and wooly, and an un-dyed natural colour ranging from off whites through to dark creams. The dark grey, brown and black woven geometric patterns and motifs in each rug tell a story, and are completely unique to the women that weave them.
Not to be confused (as I learnt on this trip) with Marmoucha rugs originating from the Marmoucha tribe not far from the Beni Ourain region, identifiable by the criss cross and triangular pattern work. Some of which I am currently having made into floor cushions and cushions which will be ready in the next few weeks.
This collection is available now, and includes 15 incredible pieces that will be shipped direct from Marrakech for delivery by December. All are currently being hand washed and hand repaired where necessary. And will be a beautiful addition to any lounge area.
Please get in contact if you have any questions at all about any of these special pieces and their origins. I can't wait to see these treasures in their new homes!
