About Our Large Moroccan Rugs
Why Large Vintage Rugs Are Rare
A vintage rug big enough for a living room has to survive decades of use in one piece, so large and extra large rugs are the hardest to find and the quickest to sell. Our larger pieces are mostly between 160 and 210cm wide and 3 to almost 5m long. Vintage large rugs tend to run longer and a little narrower than a standard modern 200 x 300cm rug, because they were woven to fit Moroccan homes, which makes them perfect for long living rooms, open plan spaces and dining tables.
Sizing for a Living Room
The simplest rule is to have at least the front legs of your sofa and armchairs sitting on the rug, so the furniture feels connected. In a long room, a longer vintage rug can run the length of the seating area, with the coffee table centred on it. Measure your space with masking tape on the floor before you buy, and check the exact dimensions on each listing, as every piece is different.
Sizing for a Dining Room or Bedroom
Under a dining table, allow about 60 to 70cm of rug beyond each edge of the table, so chairs stay on the rug when they're pulled out. A flatter, low pile rug makes that easier. In a bedroom, a large rug works best under the bottom two thirds of the bed, with 50 to 60cm showing on each side. For smaller spaces, see our Moroccan rug size guide.
