About Boujad Rugs

Originating from the Boujad region of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, authentic Boujad rugs are handwoven using 100% wool, naturally dyed with plant and vegetable extracts. These rugs are a beautiful example of Berber women's artisanship and traditional weaving techniques. The Boujad region is renowned for its distinctive weaving methods, producing rugs with unique patterns and vibrant colours that are easily recognisable.

Each Boujad rug is crafted using specific hand weaving and knotting techniques by skilled artisans. Reflecting a rich artisan heritage, these rugs can take weeks to months to complete, making each one a unique piece of art to be treasured. Vintage Boujad rugs from the 1960s and 1970s are becoming harder to find in excellent original condition, increasing their value and making them highly collectible for lovers of authentic vintage rugs

Ideal for various spaces, Boujad rugs can brighten up dining areas, bedrooms, and medium-traffic lounge areas with their bold and colourful designs. Small sized rugs are perfect for adding character to kids' bedrooms, nurseries, or creative studios.

Whether used in bright maximalist interiors, eclectic tribal homes, or modern bohemian spaces, both traditional and contemporary Boujad rugs add warmth, colour, and texture that is unmatched by commercially produced rugs.

The pile height of a Boujad rug varies from low flat kilim-like surfaces to medium-weight loop knots and thick, fluffy high pile textures, often finished with hand-plaited tassels or natural wool fringe at one end.

Boujad rug sizes typically range from long, narrow hall runners measuring up to 4 meters in length to small bedside mini rugs.

Medium and large area rugs generally measure from 1.5 x 2.5 meters to extra-large 2 x 4 meter creations, with the largest rugs rarely exceeding 2 meters in width due to the limitations of old weaving looms.
