Beni MGuild Rugs

Recognisable by their typical linear geometric patterns showing from underneath their thick and heavy medium to high-pile wool surface. These popular Berber carpets are handwoven on traditional looms, originating from the Beni MGuild of the Atlas Mountains of Morocco where cold Winters call for thick floor coverings.

The Beni MGuild region is known for its distinctive weaving techniques, producing rugs in their own unique recognisable style and design. Handwoven using 100% wool, naturally plant and vegetable dyed, these rugs are a beautiful example of Berber women's artisanship and weaving traditions.

Rich colour palettes range from soft tonal pinks with hints of indigo blue, to vibrant reds and warm golden terracotta tones, through to rich berry and purple. Beni MGuild rugs feature intricate but subtle designs that add a layer of earthy warmth and texture without overpowering a space.

The pile height of a Beni MGuild rug varies, from low flat loop knotted surfaces to  medium weight knots and thick fluffy high pile textures, often finished with hand-plaited tassels or natural wool fringe at one end.

Crafted using specific hand weaving and knotting techniques by skilled artisans, Beni MGuild rugs reflect a rich artisan heritage and can take weeks to months to complete, making each rug a unique piece of art to be treasured.

Ideal for a range of uses, from dining areas to medium-traffic lounge areas and large open plan living spaces, Beni MGuild rugs offer a beautiful cosy and warm addition to a home, full of rich history and character.

About Our Rugs

Since 2016 we've been working directly with local family businesses, artisan makers and specialist carpet traders across Morocco to source our rugs.

Vintage rugs are mostly aged between 30 - 80 years old.

They are all unique one-offs, authentic vintage finds and handmade items - so areas of wear, imperfect shapes, slight variations in size, loose threads and discolourations in areas are all part of buying rugs of this age and handmade nature.

We take great care to accurately describe and show the condition, colours and texture of our rugs in our online photography - including shooting in natural light and from different angles to give you as close to in-real-life representation as possible.

We are always happy to provide more photos and information of our rugs before you purchase.

If in doubt, please get in touch first before completing your order.

Rug Cleaning & Care

We recommend light vacuuming and occasionally hanging your rug outside in the sunshine for some fresh air.

For small spills and stains spot cleaning can be done straight away with mild soapy water.

For tougher stains we recommend to use a professional rug cleaning service that specialises in vintage and antique carpets.
